The Happy Hour Bar & Grill differentiates itself as the only establishment in town that hosts its own street festival. They connect with sponsors and attract vendors to showcase and promote their businesses and merchandise during this event. Additionally, the festival features live performances by multiple artists, creating a lively atmosphere throughout the entire evening.
The Happy Hour Bar & Grill hosts various events on their heated outdoor deck, including but not limited to birthdays, bridal showers, baby showers, rehearsal dinners, anniversary parties, family reunions, and holiday gatherings, among many others.
Over the weekend, they held an Oktoberfest event on their outdoor patio. It turned out to be a delightful evening of lively dancing, savoring every last bite, and reuniting with cherished relatives and friends. Jennifer and I sat down on their cozy patio set and had a conversation around the fire.
I asked her, "How did you get into event planning?" She replied, "I love event planning. I have always enjoyed hosting parties at my home, and even planning large events at my house is so much fun. Doing this at the bar is a great extension of that hobby to keep me busy." I can only assume that event planning must be meticulous for both the client and the planner, so I asked Jennifer, "How do you communicate with clients to ensure that everyone is on the same page and working toward the same goal?" She answered quickly, "I communicate with my clients often throughout the process to make sure I provide them with what they want. I typically have a set menu I provide to them, but I also tell them we can try to accommodate anything if they have a preference for something particular. I also communicate with them throughout to see if they want specific decorations we can provide for them. I want to make the process as stress-free as possible for them."
Enjoying the atmosphere, I caught a quick glimpse of Eric behind the busy bar. He greeted me with open arms and sat me down to chat. Being extremely hospitable, he asked me if I wanted a Diet Coke with a lemon, my "usual." We chatted about his son at Penn State, his adorable dog Chelsea, and the "top-secret" plans. As the night wound down, I was finally able to ask Eric a few questions. I asked if he could describe how he handles challenging customers in a busy and noisy environment? He sighed and replied, "For me, I always try to be patient with my customers, be honest about what the situation presents, and try to accommodate the customer when I can within reason. I guide my employees to always be patient, put themselves in the customer’s situation, and remember that a happy customer is a returning customer."
Jennifer and Eric truly love and enjoy working with local businesses. One business they collaborate with is a local baker and caterer named Curly Cakes. She makes an array of delicious treats for Happy Hour. Some favorites are her pumpkin chocolate chip loaves (pictured on the left), gooey brownie à la mode, and zesty lemon loaves.
Stable 12 Brewing Company is another business that Jennifer and Eric have partnered with. This month, they introduced their very own Happy Hour-branded 6.0 ABV IPA and even have "WE ARE" cans for Penn State football games on Saturdays.
In conclusion, I want to express how grateful I am to be able to work with Jennifer and Eric Scelza. Seeing how passionate and dedicated they are about their jobs is truly refreshing to see.
