 Philadelphia Phillies

The 2022 Phillies' World Series run: an alternate history - Sports Illustrated

History

Phillies were formed in 1883 and were known as the Quakers until they changed the name to Phils. They are part of the National League East division. They have won 2 World Series and seven national league pennants. They used to play at "Baker Bowl from 1887-1938, Connie Mack Stadium from 1938-1970, and Veterans stadium 1971-2004". They now play at the citizen bank park in Philadelphia which opened in 2004. The Phillies have around 38,157 fans that go to the home/away games and tailgates the games.

Tailgates

Phillies tailgates are hangouts in the stadium parking lots before the game starts. People would bring food, TVs and games. Almost everyone who is going to a Phillies game would tailgate in the parking lot with friends and family. Fans would get to the tailgates 4 hours before the games would even start. When we were in the playoffs so many fans would go to the tailgates 10 hours before the game would start so they could get a good spot in the parking lot. When we were in the World Series the game was located in Arizona and some fans weren't able to go. Phillies fans would buy tickets for the seats but not go just because they wouldn't want the other teams fans to go.

Chants

While you have learned what happens before the games in the parking lots, now I am going to tell you what happens in the stadium. Many fans love to scream, sing, and chant at the game while waving around a red towel. The Phillies Team don't have a specific chant, so fans just make up different chants for different games. Some of the chants they would do are "DUI" and "We Want Strider". Below is a video of how crazy fans would go for Phillies games. Fans get red towels when you enter the stadium and fans would wave the towels around in support of the team. At the end of every home Phillies game a song would come on called "Dancing on my Own" by Calum Scott. Fans would sing/scream this song while leaving the stadium after a big win.

Dressing Up

When dressing up for a Phillies games a lot of people would go all out. But one specific fan called the "The Philly Sports Guy" also known as Jamie Pagliei would paint his face the Phillies colors and dye his hair blue. He does this for every game and has become a very known Phillies fan. Every fan at the Phillies games would wear any type of Phillies gear in support of the teammates.

Social Media

Game day you will see many people posting on twitter, snapchat, and instagram of them at the game and videos of home runs, fans cheering, and singing. The Phillies instagram account would post updates on when the games for the fans to know. The team would so post pictures from the game of fans and teammates.
