A Bloomsburg University Student Worker by: Angelica Vasquez
Bloomsburg University's Subway is a place where students can enjoy handmade subs, whether they are on break from classes or are just hungry. It is located under the school cafeteria, right next to Dunkin Donuts. As soon as you step into the building, the smell of freshly baked bread and meat whips into your nose. You begin to sketch out everything in the room and realize that it is coming from within Subway itself. You look up at the banner that says "Made fresh to order" and also notice the bright green and yellow colors all around the workplace. The seating area is behind the ordering station and the seats look clean and well furnished. All of the workers up front are wearing all black, with hats that say their names. Subway has a history of making fresh sandwiches dating back thousands of years. The very first customer of the day enters the line. Once the customer gets to the point of ordering they are greeted by a lady named Andrea Gonzalez. Andrea has worked at Subway since last semester when she was a freshman in Bloomsburg. She has a slight smile on her face and says, "Hello, welcome to Subway, what kind of bread would you like today?" the customer then responds with, "Hello, can I get an Italian herbs and cheese on a footlong please?" Andrea then proceeds to take out the bread and cut it in half horizontally. She then asks another follow-up question cheerfully, "What would you like on it today?" meaning what kind of meat product would they like to eat. The customer says "Can I have a BMT with American cheese toasted as well" Andrea knows what a BMT contains, it consists of six slices of pepperoni, salami, and ham. She puts all of those on there and adds 4 slices of bacon and puts it in the oven. The customer then moves up to the topping station and waits for their sandwich to be done toasting.
Furthermore, it is now 7 p.m., and it is time to close for the workers. Andrea is now tired and stressed but she needs to clean up before she clocks out. So she proceeds to wipe everything down and clean the windows and floors. Her manager was about to leave and told her, "Once you clock out, can you put the keys back please, thank you." Andrea agrees and leaves and goes back to her dorm. After observing everything, this company and its workers train very hard to produce effective and presentable meals to their customers and it also shows that they care deeply about their field. Overall, Andrea seems fond of her job and it shows that she works very hard to get better at it every day.
